Dronacharya Award: Ultimate bull�s eye for Tata archery coach Dharmendra Tiwary

Jamshedpur: The proudest moment for a guru in any field of sports comes when one receives the prestigious Dronacharya Award from the first citizen of the nation. The prevailing COVID-19 threat however was not a dampener as Tata Steel Archery Academy Chief Coach Dharmendra Tiwary was conferred the Dronacharya Award online by the president of India, Ramnath Kovind. Dharmendra Tiwary is another feather in the cap of city�s pride.

Dharmendra Tiwary, Chief Coach, has been associated with Tata Archery Academy since its inception in 1996. Entire Tata Steel family congratulated Tiwary on this great feat.

Speaking on the occasion, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said, �Today is a proud day for each one of us at Tata Steel and Jamshedpur. We are delighted that Dharmendra Tiwary has been awarded the prestigious Dronacharya Award 2020 for Archery. We thank him for his contributions and congratulate him for bringing glory to Tata Archery Academy, Jamshedpur. It is an honour to have him guide our young sportspersons and lead them to become world-class archers.�

As Chief Coach Dharmendra Tiwary has coached and guided various TAA teams at different international tournaments and has been instrumental in honing the skill of several world-class archers.

Under his coaching and guidance Jayanta Talukdar,  Rahul Banerjee,  Deepika Kumari,  Dola Banerjee, Chekrovolu Swuro and Atanu Das won Arjuna Awardees. Deepika Kumari is Padma Shri Awardee.

Under his coaching the teams have won more than 300 International Medals and more than 1000 National Medals.

Dharmendra Tiwary, a resident of Siwan district in Bihar came to Jamshedpur and has been residing in the city since 1996 when he joined Tata Archery Academy as a coach. Currently is the chief coach at the Academy. As an archer, Dharmendra Tiwary had won several medals in national meets between 1980-�90. He was a specialist in Recurve. He left a mark in Junior Nationals too between 1987-�88 in which period he won, besides other honours, three gold medals.

The very mention of archery events brings Tata Archery Academy to the fore. Hard practice, long slog hours and refined style mark coaching in this Academy as a result of which many cadets have scored big in national and international archery meets.

Dharmendra Tiwary is the third coach from this Academy to be honoured with the Dronacharya Award. Before him coaches sanjeeva Kumar Singh (2007), Purnima Mahto (2013) had been bestowed this great honour.
