Jamshedpur: Tarun Huria, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Chakradharpur, officially flagged off the 295th electric locomotive from the Bondamunda Electric Loco Shed. This milestone highlights South Eastern Railway’s push toward high-tech, efficient rail operations.
Advanced Technology for Efficiency
The new locomotive features a Siemens propulsion system and a Medha Distributed Power Wireless Control System (DPWCS). This technology offers several operational advantages:
- No Engine Reversal: Eliminates the need to reverse engines at terminals.
- Reduced Dwell Time: Speeds up the turnaround of rakes at loading and unloading points.
- Distributed Power: Enhances control and hauling efficiency across long distances.
Green Energy: Saving ₹43 Crore Annually
Aligning with Indian Railways’ “Zero Carbon Emission” mission, the Bondamunda shed has upgraded 125 locomotives with an energy conservation scheme.
- Daily Savings: Each modified loco saves roughly 1,000 units of electricity per day.
- Financial Impact: The initiative will slash the railway’s electricity bill by nearly ₹43 crore annually.
DRM Huria congratulated the engineering team for these results and announced a ₹25,000 cash award for the staff to recognize their dedication to the project.
