Jamshedpur : Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco has embarked on a drive to mark road indicating no parking with special paints which will reflect at night on the Bistupur Main Road. The first such initiative in the city, was initiated nearly 350 meter stretch of the road from Kwality Hotel to N Road.
The Bistupur Main Road with lane of 10 meters connects Kadma, Sonari, Sakchi and Bistupur to commercial hub like Jugsalai and Tatanagar Station witnesses a traffic volume of nearly 1.5 lakh vehicle daily.
Earlier, Jusco after request from East Singhbhum district traffic police had undertaken erection of iron grills of 3 feet height on this stretch, in a bid to streamline traffic and prohibit parking of vehicles in designated no-parking zones on the road.
Vehicles, be it a four-wheeler or a two-wheeler, queued up in a cluttered is a common sight in the city with the authorities not addressing the problematic issue since long.
An array of cars lined up brazenly in front of hotels, shopping complexes and the numerable chowks causing traffic jam at varied hours are often not monitored.
When asked about the presence of traffic personnel at these places, traffic official said, People from traffic department are there but not after 9 pm. There are couple of areas where the monitoring is done till 10 pm but not after that.
When questioned on charging of fines from the people, he asserted, We charge `90 of fine from people parking in No Parking zones but it is difficult to fine everybody. We would look into the matter and start a campaign soon on that.
One of the other reasons for the traffic trouble could be that more cars are out on the roads for people to round up their shopping. Commercial places like Sakchi, Jugsalai, Baghbera are the worst hit places. Police are facing tough times in controlling the traffic
movement.
The traffic problem is adding to the woes of road users with the congested roads, lack of parking places, poor traffic sense among road users, especially the auto rickshaw and mini buses.
Moreover with the vehicular movement in Telco (HS road), Jugsalai( Station Road), Sonari (near Kagalnagar), Sakchi (Aam Bagan and Kasidih), Bistupur (Rani Kudar), Kadma (Rankini Temple), are drawing heavy crowd and traffic personnel would face the problem in these areas.
It is high time that the district administration comes into action regarding the matter before the city start resembling like a mad house.
The traffic condition in the city has gone for a toss. Auto rickshaws and buses have become a big menace in the town with their negligence on the roads as well as haphazard parking. I think it is high time that administration take steps to control it, said Prakash Sharma, a city-based social worker.
Traffic DSP R.M Sinha said that Jusco has assured that road surface
marking will be completed by this week.
