Drive against sale of tobacco products near Jamshedpur schools

Jamshedpur: Following the instructions of District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal, an investigation campaign was carried out to curb the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of private schools in the city. The campaign, led by Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Dhalbhum  Shatabdi Majumdar, took place around Tata Workers Union High School in Kadma.

Executive Magistrate  Chandrajit Singh and Food Safety Officer  Manjar Hussain accompanied the inspection team. Shops near the school were thoroughly checked for cigarettes, gutkha, and other tobacco products. During the operation, three shopkeepers found violating the rules were fined ₹600 under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). Additionally, all confiscated tobacco products were seized.

SDO  Majumdar issued strict warnings to shopkeepers, emphasizing the prohibition on selling tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions. She further cautioned that severe legal actions would be taken against violators in the future, particularly those selling tobacco products without statutory warnings.
