Dozen students fall ill in Gamharia after eating mid-day meal

Gamharia, July 21: About sixteen students fell sick after having a mid-day meal in a government basic school in Bada Gamharia under Seraikela-Kharswan district on Monday, official sources said.

Some of the students started vomiting and complained of stomach ache after eating the mid-day meal, which was being served from ISCON-run Central Kitchen here, said Deputy Development Officer of the district, Raymond Kerketta.

It has been alleaged that a lizard was found in the meal and after the students complained of stomach pain, vomiting and fever they were soon rushed to Gamharia community health centre.

As soon as the news spread a scene of chaos was seen and parents hurried to the helath centre to know about the condition of their child. Principal of the school Naval Kishore Singh tried to cover up the matter but as the media persons reached the school the matter came into light.

According to reports, the Central Kitchen provided the mid day meal to the school and it was kept safely. Later in the afternoon the cook provided the meal to the students.

At the time of having meal a students spotted a dead lizard in his plate and informed the same to the Princiapl of the school and after a while several students started compaining about stomach pain and vomiting.

As the principal saw the lizaed in the plate as seeing the condition getting worse he informed to take the students to the health centre. After getting the information Ward Commissioner, Dhananjay Gupta reached school and took students to the health centre in his vehicle.

Gupta later informed about the incident to DC and other administrative officials. To take a note of the incident Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Doraiburu, Divisonal officer Chandra Bhusan Singh, Civil Surgeon Kalanand Mishra Suresh Chandra Ghosh ACMO Dr. SK Jha, Gamharia BDO Laxmi Narayan Kishore, Police Station officers of Adityapurb and Gamharia reached the health centre and took information about the health of the students.

After the treatment all the students were sent home by an ambulance. On the spot DC Hansraj Singh said a team has been constituted to look into the matter and after the full inquiry is done action will be taken against the accused.

Kerketta said a four-member team headed by Additional Collector, Sandip Doraiburu has been constituted to probe the incident while assuring that the action would be taken against the responsible persons.
