Door to door testing drive in Jamshedpur to fight COVID-19

Jamshedpur, Jan 8: In view of spurt in Covid-19 cases, the health department has now focussed on conducting door to door rapid tests. Those who are hesitant to get themselves tested are being educated by the health team. On Saturday, the health department conducted tests on 156 people at Kadma and Sonari area out of which all tested negative.  Jamshedpur’s positivity rate (the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests) has increased to 6.48 per cent with the latest addition in cases. Three foreign nationals have also been found Covid positive. “ We want people to come forward and get themselves tested. This will help us to curb the cases. We are now visiting door to door to test,” said a health official.

The official said door-to-door screenings to identify suspected virus patients, ramping up of COVID-19 tests, are being organised at block level adding that social distancing and COVID awareness chariots are moving across the district.

The district health department has also rolled out mobile rapid antigen testing vans in the city for quick detection of COVID cases. Testing vans equipped with testing kits, doctors, and health staff have started moving to places specially containment zones to test people feared to be affected by the virus.

The move will now enable symptomatic primary contacts, senior citizens and people with comorbidities to get them tested at their doorstep for a Covid test.

“The plan is to visit containment zones and detect cases quickly. The testing vans will now enable symptomatic primary contacts, senior citizens to undergo a Covid test at their door steps. If the throat and nasal swabs test negative, they will be sent to the nearest RTPCR testing facility for further determination. A mobile testing facility with a team of three people will be on standby in each of the city’s zones to attend to symptomatic cases” said the official.

Meanwhile, the cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 55,220 and the death count is now 1069, according to the latest health bulletin. Health officials said that they would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.

The district has so far failed to report any Omicron case. All cases were of the delta variant. The vaccination for various age groups is also going on simultaneously. In all 17,286 people got their vaccines.

On Friday 7,162 teenagers in the age group of 15-18 years got their first dose of Covid vaccine. The vaccination for teens reached 18 per cent in the district.
