Doctor’s son Medical student commits suicide near Jamshedpur, police launch probe

Jamshedpur, Feb 8: A 27-year-old medical student allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Kandra under the Kandra police station area late on Saturday night, sending shockwaves through the locality.
The deceased, identified as Prakash Mahto, was the only son of physician Dr Gangadhar Mahto and a resident of Lahakothi, Kandra.
Prakash was pursuing his medical studies in Dehradun and had returned to his ancestral home around five days ago.
According to family members, when he failed to come out of his room for a long time on Saturday night, they grew anxious.
On breaking open the door, they found him hanging from a noose inside the room.
The family immediately brought him down and rushed him to Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), where doctors, after examination, declared him dead.
On receiving information, Kandra police reached the spot, inspected the house, and questioned family members as part of the preliminary inquiry. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination after completing legal formalities.
Police said investigations are underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the death.
