Jamshedpur, Oct 25: As part of the central government programme, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and directives of National Legal services Authority (NALSA), the East Singhbhum District Legal Services  Authority (DLSA) conducted an intensive awareness campaign on legal rights of citizens and government schemes available to the weaker segments of society. The team visited Burmamines, JEMCO, Telco Azad Basti and met eunuchs settled in these areas. The DLSA team comprised advocates Samshad Khan and Md Shakil and PLVs Nagendra Kumar, Arun Rajak, Sunil pandey, Jayanto Nandi, Akash Kumar, Asish Prajapati and Jayant Kumar.

During their doorto-door campaign in the colony of third genders, the DLSA team was informed that in spite of several government schemes to supplement and enhance their income, they were deprived of facilities like Aadhaar Cards, Ayushman Cards, housing, insurance and pension schemes, ration cards among others. They stated that the COVID period com[pounded their financial woes and were finding it an uphill task to survive on the barest minimum.

After hearing the problems of the eunuchs, the DLSA team members tried to provide solutions to their problems and provided them detailed tips on how to get the benefits of the several government schemes. Handbills and booklets were distributed among them to help them with selection of schemes and apply for them. The team told the third gender community to download the NALSA App on Android mobiles or smart phones that would make it easier to apply for schematic assistance online.

DLSA is carrying out extensive campaigns in the entire East Singhbhum district and will continue with the drive till November 14.
