DLSA programme for students of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Sundernagar

Jamshedpur, July 18:   As per directives of Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), a team of East Singhbhum District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted a legal awareness programme at Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Residential School in Sundernagar.

First Class Judicial Magistrates of Jamshedpur Civil Court, Vikas Kumar Bhagat and Richesh Kumar Srivastav provided detailed information on fundamental rights and duties provisioned for the girl child under several Acts including POCSO, Child Marriage Prohibition, Right to Education and many others.

Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) Arun Rajak briefed the students on child rights and informed them to contact free national helpline number 1098 for immediate assistance. He also explained the Good Touch-Bad Touch factor. PLV Nagendra Kumar spoke on the purpose and work of DLSA.

A question-answer session followed where students asked questions on career. The students were given counseling on the issue as also on better learning processes. School Headmistress, Rajli May Tudu offered the vote of thanks and requested DLSA authorities to organize more such legal awareness programmes in the school.

The programme concluded with the rendering of the National Anthem. Apart from the students others present included Sunil Pandey, Jayanto Nandi, Sadanand Mahto, Seema Kumari and other PLVs of DLSA.
