District administration huddles with puja committees for a peaceful Durga Puja

Jamshedpur: District administration today convened a meeting with the representatives of various organizations including central peace committee and Central Durga Puja Committee to chalk out strategy for peaceful Durga Puja celebrations in East Singhbhum.

Presiding over the meeting, the deputy commissioner (DC), Dr Amitabh Kaushal, said the various stakeholders of the society should come forward to coordinate with the district administration to ensure that the puja is celebrated peacefully in and around the city.

He said in the event of any exigency, individuals or organizations should immediately contact or intimate the administration officials, but should avoid taking the law in their hands. He said several meetings were held in connection with puja preparations by the administration so far.

Now with the puja round the corner, the various organizations and puja committees should tighten their socks to make sure that the puja arrangements are fool-proof, said the DC.

The DC said the administration was putting in a lot of efforts to minimize the occurrence of crimes in the city. He said the culprits of the few untoward incidents of last year�s Durga Puja were still under scanner of the district administration. He further sought suggestions from the participants for better puja planning.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amol Venukant Homkar was also present on the occasion. He said close circuit television (CCTV) cameras should be used in large numbers in puja pandals and at other public venues to keep an eye on criminals.

He said no diversion of pre-determined route will be allowed during immersion procession by the district police. The licence of puja committees will be cancelled in case of violation of the order, he said.

Central Durga Puja Committee president Tarachand Mahanty said the Kapali and Sonari Domuhani river ghats should be repaired ahead of the puja.

Red Cross members suggested that first aid boxes should be kept in all puja pandals. Suggestions for keeping fire extinguishers were also made.

Among others present during the meeting included Kalyani Sharan, Ramashraya Prasad, Pramod Kumar Tiwary, Ambika Banerjee, Sanaullah Ansari, Damodar Maharaj, Kamaljeet Kaur Gill, Reena Ghatak, Usha Singh, Sunil Pati, Rita Mishra, Ajit Pandey, Mukesh Rai, Dr Kameshwar Rai, BK Mishra and KN Thakur.
