District administration to remove name board from all personal vehicles

Jamshedpur, Jan. 31: City police along with functionaries of various social organisations, irrespective of rank and designation, will have to remove their name boards pasted on their personal vehicles. The district administration has asked police administration to remove any mention of profession from their personal two- and four- wheelers.

On January 26, the name plate of Usha Singh, national general secretary of International Human Rights Association, was removed from her vehicle was removed following orders from East Singhbum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal. Incidentally, the concerned vehicle was parked at SDO office at that time.

However, the deputy commissioners orders have raised a hue and cry among several organisations, who have expressed their unhappiness over the action.

They said that though there are several politicians who boast of their profession and posts, they are never targeted by the authorities Ashutosh Kumar, district president of International Human Rights Association said that there are several policemen and politicians whose vehicles carry name boards, but they are never targeted. However, Usha Singh was targeted, as she is a woman and helpless.

On the other hand, a district administration official said that the move should be welcomed, as most of the time, towing vans never pick up vehicles, which have such stickers on them. What if terrorists put explosives in a vehicle and put a police sticker on it? Putting such stickers on private vehicles is illegal. Unless it is an officers official car or a patrolling bike, one cannot put such stickers, he said on the condition of anonymity.
