Jamshedpur: Satnam Singh Gambhir, East India President of the All India Sikh Students Federation, has urged the Government of India to confer the nation’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, on Shibu Soren, the creator of Jharkhand state and a revered leader of the tribal community, popularly known as Dishom Guru.
Gambhir said Shibu Soren’s life has been one of struggle, sacrifice and tireless service to society. “He was not just a politician but a symbol of tribal consciousness, a powerful voice for the exploited and deprived, and an icon of social revolution,” he said.
Highlighting Guruji’s contributions, Gambhir recalled his movements against drug addiction and exploitative money lending practices, which brought awareness and change in remote villages of Jharkhand. He also praised Soren’s efforts in promoting education among tribal communities, enabling them to move forward through knowledge and empowerment.
Gambhir further said that from spearheading the struggle for a separate Jharkhand state to serving as both Union Minister and Chief Minister, Shibu Soren always prioritised the upliftment of marginalized communities and worked for the welfare of all sections of society.
“Honouring such a great man with Bharat Ratna will not only be a true tribute to his legacy but also strengthen the values of democracy and social justice in the country. The central government should take this decision without delay,” Gambhir added.
