Dipti Kumari rules day 1 of 38th Junior National Archery Championship

Jamshedpur, Feb. 12: Dipti Kumari of Jharkhand scored 324 points out of 360 to remain second while Kelmit Lepcha of Chhattisgarh was first with 327 points in girls 40 metres Indian round after day 1 of the 38th Junior National Archery Championship at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday. Meena of Haryana was third with 320 points.

Tata Steel in association with Steel Plant Sports Board, Jharkhand Archery Association and Dept. of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt. of Jharkhand is organising the 38th Junior National Archery Championship 2015-16 at JRD Tata Sports Complex from 11th to 18th February 2016.

In 30 metres Indian round Dipti Kumari of Jharkhand scored 333 points and remained at the top position, Kavita of Haryana was second while Anita Kumari of Jharkhand with 322 points remained in the third spot. In the Boys 40 metres Shivam Vaidwan of SSCB scored 345 points from a total of 360, Johnson Singh of Manipur was second with 338 points while Arun KV of Kerala was third with 336 points.

In boys 30 metres category- Shivam Vaidwan of SSCB was first with 335 points, Bharat Kumar Yadav of Chhattisgarh was second while Johnson Singh of Manipur ended in third spot.

Earlier the championship was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Culture & Sports, Govt. of Jharkhand Amar Kumar Bauri who was present as the Chief Guest and Shahanwaz Alam, Vice President, Tata workers Union as Guest of Honour in the presence of Olympian Deepika Kumari, coach Purnima Mahato, Farzan Heerjee, Chief (GR & Sports) Tata Steel, Charles Borromeo Head Sports and members of Jharkhand Archery Association.

26 States and Units are participating in the championship. Over 200 archers are participating in the Indian Rounds. The medals were presented by Senior manager Bagicha Singh.
