Jamshedpur, Oct 31: The city market is flooded with offers to woo the customers this Dhanteras and Diwali. Denizens can expect to be spoilt for choice as there is ‘More to discover’ this Diwali at showrooms decked for the festive season.
As COVID-19 restrictions are being withdrawn, people want to go on shopping sprees and what better occasion than Dhanteras. Steel City is all set for Dhanteras shopping bonanza. Markets have donned a festive look and have transformed themselves into a colourful display of grand extravaganza. Be it the overcrowded Sakchi Market or the posh Bistupur market, each and every place has something for this festival. Dhanteras is the first day of the five-day Diwali festival.
Falling on the thirteen day of the Krishna paksha in the month of Ashwin, it signifies wealth. On this day, people purchase metals and other precious items. After the dull season last year, utensil traders, jewellers and dealers in electrical home appliances are keeping their fingers to do brisk business tomorrow. The purchase of steel utensils is considered auspicious on Dhanteras.

Ramesh Prasad, one of the oldest shops dealing in utensils, crockery and gift items, said:“ Like every year, we will open our shop early tomorrow. From spoons to cookers, we have high-end products to meet the requirements of buyers”. A city-based jeweller said: “Idols of 24 carat hallmark gold of Lakshmi-Ganesh and silver coins are the next common things that witness great sales on the festival after utensils. Some persons also prefer purchasing silver glasses and spoons”. A gold trader Manish Soni noted that the pandemic has reiterated that gold is not only a reliable purchase, but also a long-term strategic asset.
As an investment option, too, gold is becoming increasingly important in the present pandemic period. I believe this is a safe haven for investment for people. With easing of lockdown, buyers are looking forward to buying gold and ornaments to secure their future. People are increasingly buying jewellery from an investment perspective, so there is a demand for precious jewellery these days. Usually, it is the jewellers who cash in on the gold rush.
However, this year the electronics goods dealers have come up with new models of LEDs, music systems and iPhones. “A new trend has emerged where people are opting for electronic gadgets. The idea goes well with working professionals who wish to buy items that will be useful in everyday life. The electronic goods sales have shot up this season. There are also some great festive offers,” said a shopkeeper.
