Deoghar civil surgeon Dr Ranjan Sinha arrested for taking bribe

Dhanbad Oct 16: Dumka unit of Anti-Crime Branch (ABC) today arrested Deoghar civil surgeon (CS) Dr Ranjan Sinha while taking bribe of Rs 70,000 at his residence for renewal of a nursing home registration.

Dumka ACB official said that Dr Sinha had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from owner of Madhupur based Bengal Nursing Home Mahfuj Alam for renewal.

On Wednesday (today) as Mahfuj Alam handed over first instalment of bribe Rs 70,000 to Dr Sinha at his Deoghar Kalibari Belabgan based residence in the morning, waiting ACB team arrested him with cash amount.

Civil surgeon Dr Ranjan Sinha is 1988 batch medical officer and he is one of the most senior in the health department. He had been civil surgeon of Deoghar for last two years. In 2023 and 2024 when almost all civil surgeons were reshuffled in state Dr Sinha was not touched. His wife retired as senior medical officer from Chatra last year. His son is also famous doctor.

Official sources said Mahfuj Alam, resident of RailPar area of Asansol (West Bengal) set up Bengal Nursing Home in Madhupur block of Deoghar. He had provisional registration of hospital till June 9, 2024.

Due to personal operation he could not able to get renewal of nursing home timely. On July 3, 2024 he applied for renewal at civil surgeon office. When he did not get response from office, Mahfuj Alam met CS Dr Sinha who demanded Rs 1 lakh for renewal. CS asked him to pay in instalment.

Mahfuj Alam lodged complaint it to ACB Dumka about it. ACB official got the verification of complaint and found that Rs 1,50,000 had been demanded. ACB lodged FIR on October 15 in this regard.

On October 16 Dr Sinha had called Mahfuj Alam at his house based Navjivan Hospital and Research Centre with first instalment amount of Rs 70,00 . ACB Dumka team also reached there and nabbed Dr Sinha on spot.
