Dengue Larvae Found in 1,098 Jamshedpur Homes

Jamshedpur: In a massive door-to-door survey conducted in Jamshedpur between April 1 and May 13, dengue mosquito larvae and pupae have been found in 1,098 premises. During the drive 67,414 households were inspected.

As monsoon season approaches, Tata Steel UISL has intensified its campaign to combat the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

Key Highlights of the Campaign:

  • Massive Outreach: Over 67,000 houses surveyed in less than six weeks.
  • Enforcement: Residents of the 1,098 affected homes have been served “reminder notices” mandating the immediate removal of breeding sources and compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Vector Control: Immediate “entomological actions” (vector control measures) were initiated by Tata Steel UISL, Tata Main Hospital (TMH), and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) wherever larvae were detected.

Proactive Measures and Public Awareness

The primary goal of the drive is the early identification of breeding sites and the active involvement of citizens. Tata Steel UISL officials noted that while there have been no confirmed dengue cases in the Tata Command Area so far this year, the risk remains high. Data shows a significant decline in cases in 2024 and 2025 compared to 2023, and the company aims to maintain this downward trend through rigorous monitoring.

“Palti-Maar” Campaign to Launch June 3

To further strengthen community participation, the third phase of the “Palti-Maar” (Turn-and-Clear) campaign will launch on June 3, 2026. This initiative will target:

  • 200 Schools
  • Gated Societies
  • Various local institutions

The campaign encourages residents to take just 10 minutes every week to inspect their homes and surroundings for stagnant water and empty any containers that could serve as breeding grounds.

Integrated Response

The health department is working in close coordination with TMH and IDSP to share information on suspected cases, ensuring a swift response to prevent any potential outbreak. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with survey teams and prioritize cleanliness to ensure a dengue-free season.
