Dengue grips Jamshedpur, 14 fresh cases turn positive

Jamshedpur, July 15: Dengue is spreading across the steel city, with affected people continuing to pour into hospitals and nursing homes on Friday.
According to information, 14 fresh cases have been tested positive for the mosquito borne dengue disease in Jamshedpur.

The district health department had on Thursday sent blood samples of 55 suspected dengue patients at the MGM Medical College’s microbiology department for test, thus sounding alarm that the cases of dengue is on the rise in the city.

So far 18 dengue positive patients were hailing from various localities of the city and are admitted in different hospitals, including at Tata Main Hospital and MGM Medical College Hospital. Today out of the 55 samples 14 were confirmed. Twelve cases are from Jamshedpur, one from Chaibasa and one from Seraikela Kharswan. East Singhbhum district integrated disease surveillance programme (IDSP) officer Sahir Pall said that the blood samples that were sent for test had been collected on Wednesday. He informed three confirmed cases hail from Kadma.

Pall said they are carrying out dengue action plan at the areas from where the cases of dengue are being reported.

“As per our study Kadma has the maximum number of suspected cases followed by Bagbera. From Kadma 10 patients had turned with the fever having the symptoms of dengue out them three has turned positive. Rest of the cases were reported from Mango, Bhuiyandih, Telco, Birsanagar areal and Sonari area of the city,” said an officer.

Meanwhile, district civil surgeon, SK Jha informed that the department will start vigilant operation from July 24.

“We have started carrying out anti-larval operation and spraying of DDT at the areas from where the suspected cases of dengue are being reported. We will intensify the drive of dengue action plan shortly so that the mosquito breeding points across the city can be destroyed at the earliest,” said Jha.
