Jamshedpur : Amidst pressure from Congress MLA Banna Gupta the demolition drive of Tata Steel quarters in Baridih was stopped.
Earlier in Vidyapati Nagar under Sidhgora police station on Tuesday the drive turned ugly as about 15 persons, including seven women, sustained injuries as police resorted to a lathicharge on protesters on the second day demolition drive.
Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco which was carrying out the demolition drive of over 50 illegally occupied quarters of the company had come to the site to remove the construction.
I think it is a serious matter and if required I may ahead with my plans seeking intervention. The government should also take into account the plight of people who stay on the land. Largely, the occupants of the residential buildings are innocent about the unfair dealings so, the effort should be made to ensure the innocent are not made to suffer in this case, said the legislature.
Expressing apprehension Gupta said that lakhs of people in the leading four cities in the State are facing acute problem of sheltering if they are evicted from their existing houses. He requested the Government to work out a mechanism to ensure the court directive is followed but the innocent people are not affected.
