Jamshedpur: Potka MLA Sanjib Sardar has called for the establishment of an Art and Culture University in Jharkhand to preserve and promote the state’s rich artistic heritage. Raising the issue during the zero hour of the assembly session on Monday, he urged the government to take proactive measures to support artists and provide them with stable employment opportunities.
MLA Sardar emphasized that Jharkhand’s artists have showcased their talent at both national and international levels, yet they continue to struggle for financial stability. He pointed out that no provision has been made for their honorarium or employment, despite their significant contributions to the cultural landscape. He demanded that senior fellowship artists be given direct appointments in government jobs to ensure their financial empowerment.
Additionally, he advocated for the inclusion of folk art and culture in the school curriculum to help the younger generation connect with their cultural roots. The proposal has generated widespread enthusiasm among artists across the state, who now hope for swift action from the government.
With this demand gaining momentum, there is growing anticipation that the government will take concrete steps to safeguard and promote Jharkhand’s folk art, ensuring sustainable opportunities for its artists.
