Jamshedpur: In a coordinated security operation, Delhi Police and the Ranchi Anti-Terrorism Squad conducted raids at several locations across Jamshedpur following the detention of a Golmuri resident at Delhi Airport. The youth was allegedly attempting to travel overseas using two different passports, triggering a wider probe. Three youths were detained in the operation.
Airport Detention Leads to Citywide Action
According to official sources, the operation began after the Golmuri-based youth was intercepted at the airport with suspicious travel documents. During initial questioning, investigators reportedly gathered information pointing to possible associates and locations in Jamshedpur. Based on these inputs, Delhi Police sought assistance from the Ranchi ATS to conduct follow-up searches.
Searches in Golmuri, Tuiladungri and Kapali
A joint team reached Jamshedpur and carried out coordinated raids under the Golmuri police station limits. A rented house located between Tuiladungri and Muslim Basti was searched. Three youths, including one identified as Abdul Ghani, were detained for questioning. Additional checks were also carried out in nearby localities such as Sakchi and Kapali to verify leads.
Afghan-Linked Documents Raise Concerns
During the search, investigators reportedly recovered documents linked to Afghanistan from the rented accommodation. The recovery prompted security agencies to widen the scope of inquiry to examine potential international connections and the purpose of the documents.
Questioning at Golmuri Police Station
The three detained individuals were taken to the Golmuri police station, where they were questioned by the joint team late into the night. After preliminary interrogation, they were released on notice and asked to submit written explanations. Police officials said the questioning was part of an initial probe and that further steps would depend on the findings.
Allegations of Dual Passports
Sources said the main accused, arrested at the airport, is a Golmuri resident who had been staying in the Tuiladungri area for several months. Investigators allege that he had recently travelled to multiple West Asian countries, including Afghanistan. During interrogation, he reportedly first produced an Afghan passport, and later an Indian passport was also recovered, indicating suspected identity fraud and misuse of travel documents.
Probe Continues, More Action Likely
The arrested youth has been moved to a secure location for further interrogation. Security agencies are examining his travel history, financial records, and possible links with other individuals. Officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that additional raids or arrests may follow as more information emerges.
Authorities said the operation underlines increased vigilance against cases involving forged passports and cross-border travel with potential security implications.
