Jamshedpur Women’s University Honours Cyclist Deepak Sharma for Promoting National Unity

Jamshedpur: A felicitation ceremony was organized at Jamshedpur Women’s University under the aegis of the NSS (National Service Scheme) department to honour Mr. Deepak Sharma, who has been traveling across India by bicycle to inspire the public with the spirit of patriotism and nationalism.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta, along with Mr. Deepak Kumar Sharma, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara, and Registrar Dr. Salomi Kujur. During the event, the university honored Mr. Sharma by presenting him with a citation.

Vice-Chancellor’s Address

In her message, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta described Deepak Sharma’s personality as heroic and inspiring. She remarked: “By completing a difficult, adventurous, and disciplined journey of 10,000 km on a bicycle, he has not only demonstrated extraordinary physical endurance but has also set an example of unwavering resolve and mental fortitude.”

Inspiration Behind the Journey

During an interaction with NSS students, Deepak Sharma shared his life struggles. He revealed that he originally aspired to win medals for the country in sports, but a serious injury during play cut his career short. Undeterred, he is now working to inspire the youth with patriotism through his pan-India cycling expedition.

Key Objectives of the Journey:

  • “Operation Sindoor” Message: Spreading awareness and messages of national pride across villages and cities.
  • Viksit Bharat: Promoting the 9 resolutions of a “Developed India.”
  • Nationalism and Spirituality: Encouraging the youth to connect with the spirit of the nation and their spiritual roots.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Registrar Dr. Salomi Kujur. The ceremony was attended by faculty members, non-teaching staff, and a large number of students.
