Jamshedpur, Jan 7: East Jamshedpur legislator Saryu Roy in a press briefing at his Bistupur residence made it clear that the question of Jamshedpur being declared a Municipal Corporation Area or being given an Industrial Township status will be decided within a month by the Jharkhand government. “State Chief Minister Hemant Soren has given me an assurance in this regard.
In fact, I had personally met the Chief Minister and the departmental Secretaries and suggested that whatever the state government decided upon should be implemented at the earliest so that the body getys its constitutional recognition. Presently, in Jamshedpur, the Notified Area Committee is functional that neither has the funds not the power to act on its own. It just follows orders of the district administration,” Saryu Roy said.
The East Jamshedpur MLA stated that Jamshedpur being denied so long of the Municipal Corporation or Industrial Town tag had been unable to get the benefits of the provisions of the 14th and 15th Finance Commission benefits that amounted to the loss of Rs 150-Rs 200 crore annually.
He said, “I have urged the state government to look into this angle too by way of special help. I have given the Jharkhand government a proposal of converting this township into Greater Jamshedpur so that Municipality or Panchayat controls are activated.”
On the issue of ownership rights or Malikana Haq Saryu Roy said that he had taken an update from the Secretary of the Urban Development Department and learned that the former government had put spanners in the wheel that initially needed to be removed.
He gave full marks to the East Jamshedpur electorate for ensuring his victory with a record margin. He said, “It is not my wont to work for regaining this seat in the next election. I want to work for social causes and not for political advantages. There are certain elements who have already started planning my defeat at the hustings during the next call. But The Jamshedpur East people have given me the honour and I will not fail them. It is they who will defeat those elements’ nefarious designs.”
Saryu Roy said that in view of the mountains of problems being faced by the Assembly’s Jamshedpur East constituency people would have to be removed and he was committed to doing so. He stated, “However, I am trying to clear the problems, one at a time. The people who are working by my side are aiding me in my task. Till my one year tenure as a legislator, I have recommended from my legislative fund projects worth crores of rupees and they include roads, drains, power, water, education and health. These are basic and fundamental requirements that have to be resolved. Neither I nor my team members will ever do anything for which the East Jamshedpur citizens will have to be ashamed of.”
Others present at the press meeting included BJM district president Subodh Srivastav, Mukul Mishra, Ramnarayan Sharma, Ajay Sinha, Hareram Singh and others.
