Seraikela, May 26: Tension erupted at Sadar Hospital, Seraikela, on Monday afternoon after the death of a 28-year-old man during treatment. Irshad, son of Mohammad Rafiq from Tentoposi village in Gamharia block, was admitted around 3:00 AM with severe stomach pain. He died around 10:30 AM after his condition suddenly worsened, with foam reportedly coming from his mouth.

Following the incident, the deceased’s family and villagers, led by Gamharia Block Deputy Chief Qiyam Hussain, staged a protest, alleging medical negligence. The agitated crowd locked the hospital’s main gate from outside for nearly two hours, demanding strict action against the doctors and hospital staff responsible.

Deputy Chief Qiyam Hussain claimed that Irshad’s health was initially improving, but deteriorated rapidly after he was given an injection, which he alleged was a poison-based anti-venom typically used for snakebites. He accused the hospital of negligence and claimed that the injection may have caused the sudden death.

Repeated attempts to contact Civil Surgeon Dr. Ajay Kumar were unsuccessful. Eventually, Deputy Chief Hussain, along with his representatives, went to the Civil Surgeon’s office. In the meantime, police reached the hospital and forcibly opened the gate to restore order.

Dr. Ajay Kumar later stated that the hospital had provided all necessary treatment and medications, and denied any negligence. He assured that if the family had concerns, a formal investigation would be conducted.

Sadar Hospital Manager Sanjit Kumar Rai said the medical team had administered appropriate treatment, and the doctor had even advised referring the patient due to his critical condition. However, the family refused the referral. He added that the sudden outburst caused panic among other patients, and hospital staff had to intervene to restore calm.

The incident led to disruption of hospital services and raised concerns about public confidence in local healthcare facilities.
