Jamshedpur, April 24: The long-standing deadlock surrounding the construction of an airport in Jamshedpur’s Dhalbhumgarh region has finally come to an end. Following multiple setbacks, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in Jharkhand has given the green light for the project, sending the necessary documentation to the Forest Environment and Climate Change Department of the government.
Previously, the Conservator of Forests had returned the land-related reports three times, causing delays and frustration. However, despite this, the Airport Authority of India will initiate work only after securing consent from the State Government, as land acquisition procedures must be carried out at the block level.
An MOU signed between the Jharkhand Government and the Airport Authority of India in January 2019 paved the way for the construction of the airport, with an initial allocation of Rs 100 crore out of the total Rs 300 crore budget. However, issues concerning land acquisition, particularly related to an elephant corridor, had stalled progress, prompting the Central Aviation Department to return the file.
Despite initial setbacks, progress has resumed, with three out of five villages agreeing to allocate land near the World War II-era airfield. The state government has also earmarked Rs 2 crore for the construction of the airport approach road, supplementing previous efforts which had already completed half of the road.
The completion of the airport in Dhalbhumgarh, situated on NH-33 in East Singhbhum, will greatly benefit the residents of Jamshedpur, who currently have to travel approximately 55 km to access air travel facilities. Moreover, passengers from neighboring regions such as Bengal and Orissa will also find the new airport convenient, eliminating the need to journey to Ranchi or Kolkata for air travel.

It’s a Mirage (or a Lollipop ) that is visible only during Elections. An airport will never come up in Dalbhumgarh.Mark my words.
There are many hurdles, besides this clearance from Forest Department. I too keep my fingers crossed. I am in Jamshedpur since 1972 and had been hearing about an airport coming up in Jamshedpur.
Got permission to destroy forests that can never be replaced? Not had enough of climate change? Greed is so unlimited? Horrible!
Jamshedpur Jharkhand don’t deserve a airport. No need of destruction of forests.Because, it’s already 70;kms from TATA.
Regional party JMM and local corrupt politicians not interested to get airport. Terrible corruption in the Jharkhand State. Within a state two major steel plants in India only Jharkhand. Maximum mineral deposits Jharkhand. Importing coal from Jharkhand providing uninterrupted power supply 24 X 7 days . In Jamshedpur we do not have power other than Tisco lease hold areas. In Mango we do not have footpaths for pedestrian. No drianage roads. No public toilet facilities. No good vegetable market for vegetable vendors and farmers. They are keeping shops at road side: traffic jam always due to encroachments. No interstate good bus stand in Jamshedpur. No traffic signals covered at main areas like Mango bride both sides: jubilee park: Sakchi: Kadma: Fire temple etc
Election drama.the project cost was 300 crores in 2019 how can they construct in 2024 only hut?
