Jamshedpur: In a crucial development aimed at expediting public welfare projects, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department at the Collectorate Auditorium. The meeting, attended by key officials including Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar and PD ITDA Dipankar Chaudhary, focused on assessing ongoing schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Under the spotlight were solar energy and river-based water supply initiatives, crucial components of the mission. Specifically, the meeting undertook a detailed scrutiny of the Multi Village Schemes aimed at ensuring tap water access to all households across 1340 villages encompassing 185 panchayats in 09 blocks. While commendations were reserved for the imminent completion of 02 schemes by August, concerns were raised over the progress of 12 others, prompting a stern directive to contractors to meet stipulated deadlines or face severe repercussions.
Mittal emphasized, “Delays stemming from administrative hurdles or negligence will not be tolerated. Contractors failing to meet timelines face blacklisting.” Acknowledging logistical challenges, he mandated continuous monitoring by executive engineers to preempt bottlenecks related to NOCs or land acquisition.
Furthermore, the review exposed issues with 61 dry boreholes, prompting directives for detailed investigative reports and exploration of alternate water sources. Highlighting the urgency, Mittal mandated intensified efforts, including deep bore drilling, to alleviate water scarcity in affected areas.
In a significant move towards equitable water access, the District Magistrate issued directives for the immediate provision of tap water connections to all government institutions including schools, Anganwadi centers, Panchayat Bhawans, and health centers. This proactive measure aims to fortify public infrastructure against water scarcity, ensuring seamless service delivery.
The deliberations underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling public welfare obligations under the Jal Jeevan Mission, underscoring the pivotal role of timely project execution in achieving sustainable community development.
