Jamshedpur, Dec 14: DBMS College of Education hosted two-day international conference on the theme “Harnessing the Power of Education to Embrace and Adopt Green Initiatives” on December 13-14.
Sponsored by Tata Steel, the event aimed to spread awareness about pollution control and environmental protection through education.
The conference featured participation from seven NGOs across different states, showcasing their environmental initiatives. Chief Guest Dr. Apratim Sahay (Co-Director, Johns Hopkins University, USA), along with representatives from Praxis (Kolkata), House of Grownest, Koru Foundation, and Vinisha (Jamshedpur), graced the event.

The opening session began with a welcome address by Secretary Shripriya Dharmarajan, followed by a summary of the day by Pamela Ghosh Dutta. Dr. Ashesh from the World Bank delivered an engaging presentation for students of DBMS Kadma School, setting the tone for the conference.

Key sessions included Tata Steel UISL’s explanation of solar energy systems, insights from Sundarbans students on climate change challenges, and a demonstration by House of Grownest representatives on making eco-friendly bio-enzyme cleaners.

Deepak Soni of Koru Foundation advocated for incorporating climate change education into curricula, while Surdeep Natural Paint showcased paint-making using cow dung.
The conference also included presentations by students from Carmel Junior College on sustainable development and a dance performance by DBMS English School students themed on Panchtatva. Awardees for the best research papers included Kanchan Kumari, Angela Munda, and others, evaluated by Tata Steel Chief Dilip and Anand.

On the second day, the closing session featured chief guest Nandan Mall, CEO of Hulladek Recycling, and special guest Dr. Sanjeev Anand, CVC of Kolhan University, who lauded DBMS College for being recognized among the top 10 B.Ed. colleges in India. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Monica Uppal, who acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team, including Chairperson Lalita Chandrashekhar and President B. Chandrashekhar.
Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Principal of DBMS College of Education, informed that the college has been designated as e-waste collection center.
The conference emphasized the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle philosophy and maintained a zero-waste approach. Certificates were awarded to participants and volunteer students, and the program concluded with the national anthem.
