No Tuition, Only Determination: Kaushiki tops city
Jamshedpur: The declaration of CBSE Class 12 results has brought immense pride to the city of Jamshedpur, as Kaushiki Pathak, a student of DAV Public School, Bistupur, emerged as the district topper in the Arts stream, securing an impressive 98.2% marks. With this remarkable achievement, Kaushiki has not only brought laurels to her school but has also become an inspirational figure across East Singhbhum and beyond.
Kaushiki’s academic journey is a testament to the power of self-belief, hard work, and family support. She scored 98 in English, History, and Economics, 97 in Geography, and a perfect 100 in Political Science. Her performance stands out not just because of the marks, but because it was achieved without any coaching or tuition.

Kaushiki’s academic brilliance is not new. She had earlier passed her Class 10 examination from Delhi Public School with a stellar 96.4%, laying a strong foundation for her higher secondary success. Her father, Purnendu Pathak, is a businessman, and her mother, Reena Pathak, a homemaker. Kaushiki credits her parents as her biggest strength and motivators throughout her journey.
“They never put pressure on me but always encouraged me to stay focused and believe in my own capabilities,” said Kaushiki. “Their unwavering support made all the difference.”
Kaushiki’s dedication extended beyond her own studies. This year, she also took on the responsibility of teaching her younger brother, Surya Shankar Pathak, who appeared for his Class 10 board exams. Under her guidance, he scored 91.2%, further underlining Kaushiki’s exceptional mentorship and time management skills.
In addition to her board exams, Kaushiki also appeared for CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)—one of India’s most competitive entrance exams for law—and secured an All India Rank of 159. This exceptional feat has opened doors for her to seek admission in the top national law universities such as NLSIU Bangalore or NALSAR Hyderabad.
“My goal is to pursue law and later prepare for the civil services. I want to contribute to society and serve the country. A legal background will empower me to understand and work within the framework of justice and governance,” Kaushiki stated.
Kaushiki believes that the CBSE’s exam schedule this year was well-structured, giving students ample time to prepare. She utilized this efficiently by creating her own schedule and sticking to NCERT books, which she considers crucial for both board and competitive exams.
Her message to future aspirants is simple yet powerful: “Don’t stress over studies. Keep your mind calm and stay consistent. Focus on NCERT books, understand the concepts, and trust yourself. Coaching is not a necessity—your discipline is your best tutor.”
Her school, DAV Public School, Bistupur, and the entire educational community of Jamshedpur have expressed immense pride in her achievements. Teachers describe her as hardworking, humble, and mature beyond her years.
