DAV Bistupur: Capacity Building Programme enhances assessment, evaluation practices

Jamshedpur: A two-day comprehensive Capacity Building Programme focusing on Strengthening Assessment and Evaluation Practices was held at DAV Public School, Bistupur, Jamshedpur, from December 11th to 12th, 2024. The event, organized by COE – Patna, aimed to improve the assessment and evaluation skills of educators.

The workshop was inaugurated with the traditional DAV GAAN, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Pragya Singh, ARO of DAV Public Schools, Jharkhand Zone E, and Principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur, Jamshedpur, welcomed the participants and motivated them to actively engage in the training sessions. She emphasized that assessment today is not just about evaluating students’ performance but about identifying learning outcomes and helping students develop key competencies. She encouraged the teachers to share their suggestions and ideas for improving assessment and evaluation practices for the upcoming session.

Esteemed resource persons, Dr. Moushumi, Principal of S. S. G. English School, Adityapur, and Arpita Bakshi, TGT at Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih, highlighted the significance of incorporating Bloom’s Taxonomy into the process of question paper development. The workshop addressed various challenges faced by teachers in the classroom and provided practical, hands-on experience with assessment components across both scholastic and co-scholastic areas. The focus was on enhancing the learning process, understanding the importance of learning outcomes, and exploring assessment as a tool for, of, and for learning.

On the second day, trainees demonstrated their creativity and artistic abilities through activities centered around the concepts of LAAR (Learning Outcomes, Activity, Reflection, and Assessment) and SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound) objectives. Experts also discussed the skill courses and electives introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education to further improve assessment and evaluation methods.

The programme concluded with a feedback session, with a commitment to continuing similar initiatives in the future, underscoring the crucial role of empowered educators in shaping the next generation of motivated and competent students.
