Jamshedpur, Oct 24: The womens wing of Marwari Yuva Manch Steel city branch, Surabhi today worshipped 200 girls on Saturday on the occasion of Mahashtami at Sakchi Manokamna Mandir, Bistupur Kalibari and at refugee Colony. The small girls were worshiped as Goddesses. In Bengal the ritual is known as Kumari Puja where girls who have not attained puberty are worshipped on the Mahashtami Day of Durga Puja as the child form of the Goddess.
The Surabhi members led by the organizations branch president Manisha Sanghi organized and offered prayers. After worshiping the girl children, the kids were treated to food delicacies and presented fruits, biscuits, chips and toys. Manisha observed on the occasion, We see the Goddess in these little children. That is why worship them. We also want to convey to the people that a daughter is not a curse but a blessing and we should bring them up with the same amount of care, understanding and love as we offer to male children. Daughters are no less than sons in almost all domains.
Surabhis state convener (female fetus protection movement) Babita Ringasia also echoed Manisha Sanghis observation and said, We want the community to feel that daughters are not curses. The other members of the Surabhi team included secretary Usha Chowdhary, Renu Agrawal, Shruti Agrawal, Parul Chetani and others.
