Meteorological department issues alert of heavy rain in Kolhan region

Jamshedpur: The meteorological department on Wednesday issued an alert of heavy rain over south and central Jharkhand owing to a low pressure and an associated cyclonic circulation.
The intensity of rain is expected to increase in the next two days with Met department issuing a special bulletin of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next two days ( October 24 and 25). But, the impact of the lower pressure was expected to wane from October 26.
The Ranchi meteorological office also issued warning of heavy rain in places like Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan,. Rainfall of over 60 mm is expected in all these places, which come under south and central Jharkhand.

A senior official at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre said that a low
pressure area has formed over Jharkhand and adjoining areas of north
Odisha. The low pressure area was today
hovering over westcentral Bay of Bengal
off Andhra Pradesh coast. An associated
cyclonic circulation was also extending upto mid-tropospheric level. The twin
systems is expected to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall ( 64.5-204.4 mm) at
isolated places of western (Simdega, Gumla, Latehar, Lohardaga), Central
(Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamtara) and northern parts (Chatra,
Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih).
The Met official said that though the monsoon trough has drifted towards the north but the sudden formation of twin weather systems would result in a good shower show over the state.
An
official said the wind pattern was creating conditions for rain. “We are
expecting rainfall activity over Jharkhand in the next 48-hours due to
confluence of northerly and southerly winds,” he predicted.
Today, the sky remained overcast through the morning in Jamshedpur and its neighbouring districts like Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum and several hilly areas of the region. The sun was visible only around noon.
However this time administration is planning to take preventive measures pre-hand so that horrors of the flood are not repeated. We are working on a strategy to coordinate in such a way that the there is no nengetive impact of rains in the city. The meeting was called for making policies and framing rules to deal with calamities.Wewould examine the citys needs for drainage, construction of embankments and any other measure required to handle floods, saidan official.
The weather condition is likely to remain largely the same at least for next couple of hours and rains will continue, said officials at the Patna met office.
