Cyclone Murasu pauses Bengal’s winter chill

Cyclone Murasu has temporarily delayed the arrival of winter in West Bengal. Meteorological officials confirmed on Tuesday that temperatures remain well above normal across the region.
The severe storm recently made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast. Weather forecasters issued red alerts for coastal areas across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu.
Although the cyclone bypasses Bengal directly, its indirect atmospheric effects alter local weather patterns. Cloud cover currently blankets all districts, generating isolated spells of light rain.
North Bengal districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong expect minor scattered showers today. Meanwhile, the remaining northern districts will likely experience completely dry conditions.
South Bengal districts, including Kolkata, Howrah, and South 24 Parganas, face light thunderstorms. Rain clouds linger over these areas before the atmosphere settles midweek.
On Monday, Kolkata recorded a high of 31.04 degrees Celsius. The city’s minimum temperature reached 25.02 degrees, standing two degrees above the seasonal average.
Atmospheric humidity levels in Kolkata ranged between 67 and 95 percent yesterday. Heavy moisture trapped near the ground continues to prevent cool night air.
Weather experts predict clearing skies starting Wednesday morning as rain chances diminish rapidly. Sunshine will quickly break up the remaining cloud layer across the state.
Drier air will allow night temperatures to drop progressively over the coming days. These shifts create ideal atmospheric conditions for the delayed winter season.
Residents can expect significant weather relief beginning Thursday, November 5. The temperature dip will bring crisp, much-awaited winter chill just before Kali Puja celebrations.
