Jamshedpur, Dec 14: Cyber criminals siphoned off Rs 1.45 lakh from the account of a Jugsalai based businessman showing that efforts of state police to create awareness among masses not to fall in trap of cyber thugs is yet to bear fruit at the ground level.
The businessman identified as Satbir Singh Bhatia has in a complaint with the cyber thana of Jamshedpur in Bistupur stated that a caller claiming to be a bank official had called on his mobile on December 11 and sought information to link Aadhar number with the bank account. The caller had said that if Aadhar link is not done immediately his bank account would be closed and so the businessman gave all the information sought by the caller including Aadhar number and OTP. However, immediately the amount was debited from his account. When he tried to contact the number from which the call came it was found switched off.
Significantly, since November Jharkhand police is carrying out an awareness campaign against falling prey to the cyber criminals by asking masses against disclosing vital information like ATM CVV number, bank account, OTP and PIN numbers to the caller on phone.
