New Delhi (IANS): The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday announced revised timings for the Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate courses (CUET-UG) 2026, after a “technical glitch” delayed the examination at several centres on May 30.
In a post on X, the NTA blamed its service provider, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), for the disruption. “M/s TCS has reported that a technical glitch at their end delayed the commencement of CUET (UG) 2026 at some centres on 30.05.2026,” the agency stated.
However, the NTA confirmed that technicians have now resolved the issue.
“The issue has since been resolved, and the exam is being conducted with full compensatory time so that no candidate is disadvantaged,” the NTA added.
Announcing the revised schedule, the NTA posted: “Afternoon session timing (revised): Reporting/entry: from 2:30 p.m.; Examination begins: 4:00 p.m. (instead of 3:00 p.m.).”
The agency added that morning-session candidates will receive “the full duration of the paper and may exit only after completing it”.
The NTA expressed sincere regret for the inconvenience caused to students and parents. To assist candidates facing issues, the testing agency shared its official helpline number (+91-11-40759000) and an email support channel.
According to the Ministry of Education’s website, the CUET provides a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates nationwide. The common test especially benefits students from rural and remote areas by establishing better connections with higher education institutions. A single examination enables candidates to cover a wide outreach and participate in the admissions process for various Central, State, Deemed, and Private Universities.
The NTA opened registration for CUET-UG 2026 in the first week of April.
In 2025, 13.54 lakh students registered for CUET-UG. Those exams offered first-year college admissions across more than 260 universities, including all Central universities. The 2025 exam covered 37 subjects and took place in 13 languages across 300 centres nationwide.
