CSIR-NML Jamshedpur, MECL sign pact to boost critical mineral research

Jamshedpur, October 22: CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, and Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) signed a collaborative agreement to advance research and innovation in the field of critical minerals. The partnership aims to enhance quality, sustainability, and technological advancement in mineral exploration and metal extraction, aligning with the Government of India’s vision for self-reliant and sustainable mineral development.

Under this agreement, both organisations will jointly undertake projects related to critical mineral research, mineral beneficiation, metal extraction, technical gap assessments, and analytical support. The collaboration also focuses on improving analytical capabilities, promoting knowledge exchange, and supporting joint training and research initiatives. It will further strengthen ongoing efforts under the Centre of Excellence in Critical Minerals and Metals.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Indra Dev Narayan, CMD, MECL; Pankaj Pandey, Director (Technical), MECL; and Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML. The agreement was executed by Karthik Ramachandran, Head, Business Development & Commercial, MECL, and Dr. S.K. Pal, Chief Scientist and Head, Research Planning and Business Development, CSIR-NML.

Scientists from CSIR-NML and senior officials from MECL also attended the signing ceremony, reaffirming their commitment to advancing India’s critical mineral ecosystem through research, innovation, and collaboration.
