CSIR-NML Jamshedpur marks Hindi Week with poetry, cultural programs

Jamshedpur, Sept 8: The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) observed “Hindi Week Celebration 2025” from September 1 to 8 with great enthusiasm. The week-long event featured a variety of programs and competitions, highlighting the importance of Hindi as a medium of cultural expression, communication, and unity.

A special Kavi Sammelan (poets’ gathering) was organized in the historic NML auditorium as part of the celebration. Addressing the audience, Laboratory Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury described the event as not only a dialogue between poets and listeners but also a festival of cultural heritage. “Poetry is an essential expression of the human soul. When words are connected with emotions, they go beyond language to reflect the life of the people. Poetry captures public pain, hope, joy, and sensitivity—it is the most direct and powerful medium of expression,” he said.

Dr. Chowdhury emphasized that poetry has always played an important role in connecting people and reminding society that suffering is not individual but collective. “It is through poetry that shared human experiences come alive,” he added.

The Controller of Administration, Jaishankar Sharan, underlined the social power of poetry in his speech. He said, “Strong poems awaken society and inspire people to stand against injustice. While songs and love poetry bring out life’s sweetness, satire helps us recognize contradictions in society and understand deeper truths through humor. Ghazals and songs reach the soul, offering peace, comfort, and contemplation.”

The concluding ceremony of Hindi Week was held on September 8 under the chairmanship of Dr. Shailendra Kumar Jha, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-NML. Dr. Jha highlighted the cultural importance of Hindi and urged employees to increase its use in daily official work. “Hindi is not only a medium of communication but also a symbol of our nation’s unity and cultural heritage,” he said.

On this occasion, Senior Hindi Officer (Selection Grade) Dr. Purushottam Kumar explained the Government of India’s Official Language Policy. He also spoke about the constitutional provisions related to Hindi as an official language. Dr. Kumar reminded the gathering that the event was more than a literary program—it was a celebration of cultural consciousness in Jharkhand. “Poetry is not just a play of words; it is the heartbeat of life,” he remarked.

As part of Hindi Week, various competitions including essay writing and dictation were organized for employees and researchers. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates at the closing ceremony.
