Youth must lead Jharkhand’s progress: Min Ramdas Soren
Jamshedpur, April 16: Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren on Tuesday urged students to rise as the new architects of the state’s future. Speaking at the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebration organized by CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, he emphasized the need for local professionals—IAS, IPS officers, engineers, doctors—who understand the culture and challenges of the region, to take the reins of administration and development.
“Just as our ancestors struggled for independence and the formation of Jharkhand, the present generation must work towards transforming it into a developed and empowered state,” said the Minister. He called upon students to contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress through education, innovation, and public service.

The event was held to commemorate Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The celebration saw participation from over 300 students from 10 tribal schools across East and West Singhbhum, as well as teachers and CSIR–NML staff.
Addressing the gathering, Soren sensitized students about Jharkhand’s history, including the sacrifices of tribal freedom fighters like Tilka Manjhi, Sidho-Kanhu, and Phulo-Jhano. He stressed the significance of the “Jal, Jungle, Zameen” movement in the formation of the state and encouraged students to draw inspiration from these historical struggles.
He urged the youth to embrace science and technology, and to go beyond textbooks by exploring laboratory setups and gaining practical knowledge. “Institutions like CSIR–NML play a key role in guiding young minds,” he said, likening career planning to a train journey where the destination must be clear to reach the goal.
Soren also praised the government’s Medha Samman Yojana for supporting girls’ education and expressed concern over the shortage of scientists in the country, urging youth to take up the mantle.
CSIR–NML Director Dr. Sandeep Ghosh Chowdhury welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s legacy. Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director, CSIR–CMERI Durgapur, also inspired students by stressing the power of science. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Aditya Mainak, Administrative Controller, CSIR–NML.
