Jamshedpur, Feb 16: The fast deteriorating law and order situation in the city and suburbs has rattled the nerves of citizens who are otherwise, used to peaceful lives. The disconcerting scenario has ruffled the confidence of people and discussions on the present threatening law and order situation are part and parcels of daily living across all segments of citizens. While the police seek public support to eliminate crime, citizens point their accusing fingers at the police for incidences of murder, loot, burglary, snatching and extortion in recent times loom threateningly over East Singhbhum, particularly in Jamshedpur. The unnerving audacity of criminals is rising everyday and people attribute this to police sluggishness. However, it must be said that the police administration hjas been able to resolve most crimes by nabbing culprits who have been initiating such moves. Police have launched intensive arms’ checking drives on streets to tackle crime but they seem to have overlooked the movement of various gangs which are roaming freely and giving thrust to criminal incidents with gay abandon.
“I feel afraid of venturing out after dusk as you never know what will happen. Crime has increased manifold and I have lost all confidence in the police,” said a Sakchi homemaker.
Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI)officials said police should not only focus on arms’ checking drives but also strengthen their information network. “Police need to devise non-porous plans to block all leeway to criminal activities who, due to khaki shortcomings are making hay and presently the sun is shining at all hours. The escape of criminals from the crime scenes can be checked through properly sealing all entry and exit points.” The SCCI official said that the deteriorating law and order situation would not allow business investments in Jamshedpur. “Tell me, who would like to do business in this scenario. The business community is living in fear. This should not be allowed to continue for long. It will affect the overall economy of Kolhan,” he said.
SSP Dr M Tamil Vanan said police were taking necessary steps to control and detect criminals. “We will come up with results very soon,” he claimed, indicating that they have picked some suspects involved in recent sensitive criminal cases.
The police administration has decided to increase night patrolling in the city, especially in Mango and Sakchi localities. Police officials said that constables on foot would be deployed in a stretch of every one km for patrolling. “Police patrolling will be beefed up and patrolling would be increased post midnight.”
For record, In the past one week, at least seven cases of burglary have been reported in the city and its suburbs. Most of the incidents happened in posh areas of Mango and Sakchi.
