Jamshedpur, March 26: Cricket betting kingpin Mukul Sharma, who is alleged to be involved in a betting racket in Pragati Apartment at Sonari, was arrested from his house in Kunjnagar in Sonari on Thursday afternoon.
Sharma (42) was produced before a judicial magistrate late last afternoon and subsequently sent to the Ghagidih jail.
DSP (Headquarters-II) Amar Pandey confirmed the arrest of the cricket betting kingpin.
“Yes we have arrested Sharma from his house at Kunjnagar for allegedly operating the betting along with some others. The arresting was made on the confessional statement of Muahmmed Jamshed alias Jammu who had surrendered before the senior SP, Anoop T Mathew on March 15,” said Pandey.
The DSP said that from the confessional statement of Jammu it was known that Sharma was the 50 percent partner of a betting business, the other partner being Anuranjan, who is also a resident of Sonari.
The DSP said the rest of the accused, namely Halim Ahmed, Pervez Ahmed and Manish Kumar who are wanted in connection with the firing incident at Sharma’s pen house in Sonari the night of March 12. Earlier on Wednesday, Mukul Sharma had claimed that he was in no way related to cricket betting.
