Crackdown on illegal liquor ahead of New Year in Jharkhand; Excise Commissioner issues strict orders

Ranchi: As the New Year approaches, Jharkhand is gearing up for a stringent crackdown on illegal liquor activities. Commissioner Excise, Faiz Ak Ahmed, has issued a stern directive, indicating that excise officers in districts where illegal liquor is discovered will face consequences. The order, issued on Thursday, emphasizes surprise inspections and raids requested by Commissioner Product Faiz Ak Ahmed, extending from Christmas through the New Year and beyond.

The focused raids aim to target illegal liquor and adulterated alcohol, with additional measures against those selling liquor above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP). Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in all districts have been urged to conduct thorough inspections, ensuring strict adherence to regulations. Any complaints received will prompt swift action against implicated excise officers.

Commissioner Product reported the suspension of an Assistant Commissioner Product in Hazaribagh, a Sub Inspector Product in Seraikela, and another Sub Inspector Product in Palamu. Allegations of irregularities have been substantiated in the ongoing investigation against them, and multiple officials remain under scrutiny. Pending the outcome of the investigation reports, further actions are anticipated against those found guilty.

Additionally, the Excise and Prohibition Department has received information about more cases of adulterated liquor in West Singhbhum district. Recent seizures from various locations have raised concerns, including instances of selling branded liquor bottles diluted with water. A headquarters-level investigation committee has been formed to probe the matter comprehensively. Pending confirmation of allegations in the investigation, appropriate actions are poised to be taken against the implicated officials.
