Crackdown on Illegal Drugs: Gupta Medical in Jamshedpur Under Scanner

Jamshedpur: In a decisive move to curb the sale of narcotic and prohibited drugs in the district, the administration has intensified its surveillance on medical stores. Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, Drug Inspector Md. Abrar Alam led an investigation in the Kadma area, inspecting multiple pharmacies and collecting drug samples for testing. This action is part of an ongoing effort to prevent drug abuse and ensure compliance with regulatory norms.

During the raid, officials inspected several medical stores suspected of selling controlled substances without proper authorization. Gupta Medical, located in Kadma, was specifically ordered to submit its purchase and sale records for Spasmo-Proxyvon Capsules and Tossex cough syrup within three days. These medicines are often misused as recreational drugs, leading to concerns about their easy availability in the market. Additionally, Bhatia Medical and Balaji Medical were also subjected to rigorous scrutiny to check for any irregularities in their inventory.

Drug Inspector Md. Abrar Alam emphasized that the administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach toward the illegal sale of narcotics. “Strict guidelines have been issued regarding the sale of such substances to ensure they are not misused. Pharmacies must maintain accurate records of sales and purchases, and failure to comply will lead to strict legal action,” he stated. He further added that surprise inspections would continue to be conducted in different parts of the district to ensure full compliance with the law.

The administration has expressed serious concerns over the growing misuse of prescription drugs, particularly among youth. Many of these substances, originally intended for medical use, are being illegally diverted for non-medical purposes, leading to addiction and health hazards. The crackdown is part of a broader initiative to ensure that pharmacies operate within the legal framework and do not contribute to drug abuse in society.

The administration has warned that strict legal action will be taken against medical stores found violating drug sale regulations. Those engaged in unauthorized transactions of controlled substances may face heavy fines, suspension of licenses, or even criminal charges. The authorities have also urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug sales, reinforcing the community’s role in tackling the issue.

Meanwhile, all pharmacy owners in the district have been directed to maintain detailed records of their transactions and ensure that prescription drugs are sold only against valid medical prescriptions. The administration has assured that it will continue monitoring drug stores to prevent any unlawful activities.

“With increasing vigilance and stringent enforcement, the district administration aims to create a safer environment and protect citizens, especially the youth, from the dangers of drug abuse. The ongoing drive is expected to send a strong message to violators and reinforce the commitment to public health and safety,” said an official.
