Covid-19 deaths soar again in Jamshedpur

City reports 6 fatalities, 525 infections, 1015 recoveries  

Jamshedpur, Jan 19: Jamshedpur on Wednesday continued to record COVID-19 recoveries outnumbering the new infections with 525 people contracting the contagion and pushing the overall caseload to 64,576.

COVID-related fatalities remained high with 6 people including three from Jamshedpur rural areas succumbing to the virus in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 1104 till date, the health bulletin said.

According to East Singhbhum Covid-19 medical bulletin, as many as 1015 people have walked out of healthcare facilities aggregating 57793 and leaving 5679 active infections.

The number of samples tested today was at 7350 pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 2160415 till date.

Three people from rural areas of the district including 44-year-old man from Hata in Potka, 39-year-old woman of Rasunchopa in Potka and 30-year-old man from Baharagora woman succumbed to the virus. In Jamshedpur urban-68-year-old  Sonari man, 85-year-old Kadma Kundali Road man and 75-yearold Sakchi resident died of Covid on Wednesday.

Jamshedpur’s positivity rate – the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests – was 7.14 percent with the latest addition in cases. 7350 samples were tested on Wednesday.

Telco area of Steel City reported the maximum 62 cases on Wednesday. 53 cases have come from Mango, 59 from Sakchi and 51 from Kadma.  

The positivity rate rose to 3 per cent in Jamshedpur.

The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 64576 and the death count is now 1104, according to the latest health bulletin.

The new cases came out of the 7350 tests conducted on Wednesday.

7350 COVID-19 tests, including 1154 RT-PCR, 5815 RAT and 381 TrueNat were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 809639 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 90.23% while the mortality rate is 1.71%.

So far in Jamshedpur 2160415 samples have been collected out of which 2155259 have been tested and 2090683 have turned out to be negative.
