COVID-19 cases on rise in Jharkhand; Health Department on alert

Mail News Service

Ranchi: With COVID-19 cases surging across the country, Jharkhand is also witnessing a gradual rise in infections. So far, nine positive cases have been reported in the state, with the highest number—four cases—emerging from the capital, Ranchi.

In response, the state Health Department has activated alert mode. Random testing and intensified monitoring have been launched statewide. Additionally, wearing masks in public places has been made mandatory once again. Ajay Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, has issued directives to all District Commissioners and Civil Surgeons to enforce preventive measures.

Although the exact variant infecting patients in Jharkhand has not yet been identified, the Genetic and Genomics Department at RIMS is ready to conduct genome sequencing. However, no samples have been sent so far for sequencing due to the low number of cases. The Health Department has now instructed that genome sequencing investigations should begin promptly.
