Jamshedpur, Sep 23: Tata Steel officials, with the help of the Rajasthan Police, conducted a joint raid on M/S Khandelwal Trading Corporation (KTC) in Sikar District of Rajasthan on September 21, 2022, wherein counterfeit Tata Wiron Binding wires were being sold. Tata Wiron’s binding wires are packaged in a unique manner and all original products are sold with the same packaging by authorised dealers and distributors only.
Upon receiving information about the unscrupulous activity, Tata Steel along with Rajasthan Police conducted a joint raid and seized counterfeit products estimated around 22 lakhs on September 21, 2022. FIR has been registered against the said entities under 420, 483 & 486 sections of IPC and 103 & 104 sections of Trademarks Act.
This unauthorised use of the Tata Wiron name is infringing on the Intellectual Property Rights of Tata Steel Ltd. The owners were selling fake binding wires of substandard quality and selling it to consumers disguising it as original Tata Wiron products.
Tata Steel’s products possess tremendous goodwill in the minds of the consumers by virtue of the quality of the products. Such unauthorised use of the Tata name on wire products, which do not meet the quality standards of Tata Steel products, has hampered the reputation of Tata Steel. Tata Steel strongly condemns the misuse of trademarks and logos of Tata Steel and Tata Sons without prior permission. In furtherance to protecting its brand reputation and goodwill, Tata Steel’s brand protection team continuously monitors and acts against entities which are infringing on the brand’s Intellectual property rights including counterfeiters.
Tata Steel will continue with these efforts in monitoring and acting against any such illegal activities which are negatively impacting its assets and the larger customer fraternity.
