Corporate Recyclers Conclave 2025: Pioneering Sustainable Waste Management

Jamshedpur: The Corporate Recyclers Conclave (CRC) 2025, organized by Manav Sansadhan Vikash Sansthan, was held in Ranchi, bringing together a diverse array of stakeholders from the metal manufacturing, recycling industries, research laboratories, and academia. With the theme From Waste to Wealth, the conclave aimed to brainstorm sustainable solutions for the immediate challenges industries face in waste utilization.
The event was graced by B.K. Tiwari, Director-in-Charge, BSL, SAIL, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach to achieve sustainable waste management and highlighted the five elements of the circular economy—Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, and Remanufacture—as key to national development.
More than 50 delegates from leading corporate sectors, including HINDALCO, AMNS, JSW, JSPL, Ultratech Cement, Tata Steel, Biotech Agriinnovation Pvt. Ltd., and ECOSUSTAIN, participated in the event. Representatives shared best practices and innovations in waste management.
Dr. Arvind Bondhankar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel (AMNS), revealed that AMNS generates 47 types of waste, with solutions developed for 37 of them. Dr. Sanjay Kumar from CSIR-NML Jamshedpur discussed converting “Trash to Cash” through the circular economy and highlighted technologies for red mud, e-waste, and battery utilization developed by CSIR-NML.
Nitesh Ranjan, SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant, addressed the utilization of LD/SMS slag and explained how Bokaro Steel Plant has advanced its slag processing for uses such as flux replacement, brick manufacturing, and road construction. These efforts have significantly reduced the plant’s carbon footprint.
Dr. Amit Ranjan Chakraborty and Sri Akhilesh Kumar Mishra from Tata Steel detailed the company’s pioneering efforts in by-product management. Tata Steel generates revenue of ₹8,000-10,000 crore annually through its Industrial By-products Management Division and has created branded products like Tata Aggreto, Tata Nirman, and Tata Ferro-shot.
Prof. (Retd.) Ranjit Prasad, Convener of CRC 2025, emphasized the importance of transforming industrial waste into valuable resources. Dr. S. Ranganathan, Co-Convener and Member of the Expert Appraisal Committee, Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, underscored the urgent need for developing technologies for waste utilization.
Dr. Suruchi Kumari, Organizing Secretary, highlighted the growing issue of e-waste and its large-scale implications. She also presented the vote of thanks, acknowledging the participation of industry leaders, researchers, and academicians.
The brainstorming session fostered discussions on innovative approaches to industrial waste management. Vivek Kumar from Hindustan Zinc Ltd. spoke about using biological processes and rehabilitation efforts through plantation to mitigate environmental hazards.
Participants also deliberated on: Enhancing material efficiency to reduce carbon footprints. Developing technologies for non-recyclable waste. Integrating circular economy principles into industrial operations.
