Coronavirus juts into Chaibasa in West Singhbhum with one positive

Jamshedpur, May 18: With the emergence of the first COVID-19 case in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum that had remained untouched thus far, became another district that added to 17 other corona positive districts. The person is a 22 year old youth from Gua and he arrived on May 14 from Chennai. He was sent to the quarantine centre at Chaibasa immediately upon his arrival in the district and he tested positive after his samples were checked on Monday, May 18.

With the detection of three more cases on Monday, the number of Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand has risen to 227.

One case each has been found in the Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur and West Singhbhum districts. It was the first case in the West Singhbhum district. The coronavirus has spread to 18 of the 24 Jharkhand districts.

18 districts out 24 in the state have been affected with COVID19 infection with East Singhbhum, Latehar, Lohardaga and Ramgarh district being the recent entry in the list. All new samples tested positive are of the migrants and stranded labourers.

Out of 226 positive cases so far, 104 are from Ranchi, 28 from Garhwa, 10 from Bokaro, 15 from Palamau, 10 from Giridih, five from Deoghar, five from Dhanbad, six from Koderma, 26 from Hazaribagh, five from East Singhbhum, two each from Jamtara, Simdega, Ramgarh and Dumka. One person each from West Singhbhum, Godda, Latehar and Lohardaga has also tested positive for coronavirus.

Capital Ranchi accounts for 104 out of a total of 223 Covid cases. The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel. Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far.

While 107 case are active, 113 people have been discharged. In Ranchi 83 people have been cured, Bokaro (9), Deoghar 4, Hazaribagh, Garhwa and Palamu (3 each), Simdega, Dhanbad and Dumka (2 each), Koderma and Giridih (one each).

Of the 226 cases, 53 are women and 174 men. According to the Health Department data, 37,848 samples have been collected and 33,220 tested. Of this, 32,997 turned negative.
