Jamshedpur, Aug 1: Chaos took over the proposed venue of agitation planned by dependent contract workers united under the banner of Tinplate Ashrit Karmachari Sangh (TAKS) at Tinplate Union premises on Thursday.

As per plan, the outfit members gathered at the union office gate to start their indefinite fast unto death programme. The agitation plan was however foiled as the Tinplate Workers Union officials put up strong protest and called the police to remove the agitators.

During the over four hour long drama, members of TAKS tried to enter the union office and sit there for agitation. But the union office-bearers made a human chain and stopped the agitators from entering the office. The situation turned violence when the contract workers clashed with union leaders and threatened to take the agitation to a higher level.

Shambhu Sharma, president of TAKS, sat on the road before Tinplate Union office and declared the agitation on. The agitators raised slogans against the union officials.

Shortly thereafter, Golmuri police reached the venue and prevented TAKS members from going further with their plans without obtaining prior permission from the district administration.

The contract workers have demanded minimum wages, prompt clearance of labour bills, permanent jobs for the dependents, end of biometric attendance, canteen facility and action against corrupt company officials.
