VP stresses green initiatives, safety, and employee–community engagement during visit
Gamharia: D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel, visited the Tata Steel Gamharia unit and underscored the importance of strong community engagement with the clear message, “Connect to Community.” He said the long-term success of any industrial unit depends on its relationship with society, the environment, and its employees.
The visit began with Ramam planting a sapling near the SHE block along with Plant Head Ranjan Kumar Singh, reinforcing Tata Steel’s Green City theme. He said tree plantation reflects the company’s commitment to environmental protection and responsible industrial development for future generations.
Focusing on employee safety and convenience, the Vice President flagged off two AC shuttle buses and a Bolero vehicle for employees. He said improving internal transportation and working towards zero road accidents are integral to Tata Steel’s “Safety First” culture. The initiative aims to make commuting within the plant premises safer, easier, and more comfortable.
During the visit, Ramam held a detailed interaction with department heads, where issues related to Corporate Services were discussed. He highlighted the need for better coordination among departments, employee welfare, improvement of basic amenities, and stronger engagement with the surrounding community.
Ramam noted that Tata Steel’s development philosophy goes beyond production excellence and places equal importance on social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and community partnership. He said meaningful engagement with people around the plant helps build trust and shared responsibility, which ultimately strengthens the organisation.
Employees described the visit as motivating, saying the emphasis on safety, environment, and community connect reinforced Tata Steel’s core values at the Gamharia unit.
