Congressmen pay tribute to Indira Gandhi on 29th death anniversary

Jamshedpur, Oct 31: The nation on Thursday remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 29th death anniversary, with President Pranab Mukherjee and other leaders paying tributes to her.

Glowing tributes were also paid to Indira Gandhi in Jamshedpur as congressmen observed the day as “Martyrdom day”. Several functions were organised throughout the city today to highlight India’s first woman Prime Minister’s contribution in nation building.

District Congress Committee paid rich tributes to Indira at Tailak Pushtakalay in Bistupur were several leaders of the district were present. Sakchi Sahid Chowk was also glittering with activities as several senior congress leaders paid homage to the first women prime minister of the country.

At Sakchi roundabout several programs were organized where congress leaders in their traditional attires remembered Indira by offering floral tributes. Senior Party leader Bharat Singh also organized a function at his office in Sakchi were party workers paid their tributes.

Congressmen also organized a tree plantation function and planted several trees.

Indira Gandhi, who was the Prime Minister of the country from 1966 to 1976 and again from 1980 to 1984, was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her residence on October 31, 1984.
