Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today alleged that several Congress leaders had joined hands with the BJP to prevent the proposed alliance between the Congress and the JMM from taking shape. He said the Congress leaders had tried to give a ‘walkover’ to the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Without taking names, the CM said two senior Congress leaders of the state were acting at the behest of the BJP leaders. Praising the state in-charge of Congress BK Hariprasad, he said the latter understood the ground realities well, but failed to understand the sudden change in the political scenario.

“JMM will contest the Assembly polls with its full strength and vigour on all 81 seats. The leaders of various parties are in touch with me. The main fight will take place between the JMM and BJP,” the CM said.

Soren said Dinesh Williams Marandi and Amit Mahato were in touch with the JMM. He said the party would be fielding candidates on all seats. He said he was himself not interested in contesting the polls. He however added that he would go by the party decision.

Reacting over the breaking of the 16 month old alliance with Congress, the JMM leader said, “Whatever happened is passé now. Now it is time to look ahead and prepare for the elections.”

Later, addressing a gathering of party workers in Kharsawan, Soren said there was nothing to probe into in his 14 month long tenure. He welcomed former JVM leader Krishna Gagrai into the party at Shahid Maidan. He said the BJP ruled the state for nine years, but achieved nothing to boast about. He said the state government had stopped iron ore mining in Kolhan region and handed over a report on the same to the Central government.

Soren said the state government had taken many initiatives for woman empowerment. He said no woman will be seen selling hariya (local rice beer) and daru (hooch) in the next five years.

State Adivasi welfare minister Champai Soren, Jaiprakash Patel, wife of former deputy CM Sudhir Mahato, Savita Mahato, former MLA Mangal Singh Bobonga and senior leader Sukhlal Mahato were also present on the occasion.
