Jamshedpur: Former Jamshedpur MP and national Congress spokesperson Dr Ajoy Kumar has demanded a high level probe into the death of 164 infants in MGM Hospital in the last three months.
The party leaders today staged a demonstration at Sakchi roundabout and demanded immediate action against the authorities. “It is a matter of negligence and immediate action must be taken. The government, besides the hospital, should be held responsible for these deaths,” the former MP said.
A delegation of Congress workers reached Sakchi police station and registered a complaint in connection with the infant deaths. The party leaders demanded a fair probe into the deaths and compensation to the aggrieved family members of the infants.
Leading the agitation, district Congress president Vijay Khan said the agitation would continue till Wednesday. He said the state government should set up an inquiry into the deaths and punish the guilty.
State general secretary of Youth Congress Nalini Sinha and state secretary Rakesh Sahu took out a procession from Shaheed Chowk, Sakchi, to Sakchi roundabout, raising slogans against the government. The protestors demanded improvement in healthcare services at MGMCH.
Among those present during the demonstration included Pakur MLA Alamgir Alam, former minister Dulal Bhuiyan, Sanjay Pandey, Bablu Jha, Rajeev Ranjan, Sardar Baldev Singh, Usha Singh, Anand Bihari Dubey, Kumar Gaurav, Deepika Pandey, Usha Yadav, Aparna Guha, Ashok Choudhary, Paritosh Singh, Rakesh Sahu, Nalini Sinha, Akhilesh Yadav and Paritosh Singh.
